Our New Building
In December 2005 we opened our new building. This new construction houses a staff room and a purpose built music room.
The building was designed by ARCO2 based upon the principles of sustainability and has some very interesting and unique features.
Some of the walls are constructed from cob. This is basically mud, or clay, and straw. The children actually helped to get involved in building the walls. Cob in Cornwall were great fun to work with and really let us get involved.
The walls are insulated with straw bales, which helps to maximise the heat potential within the building.
There is a sedum roof to the walkway surrounding the building. This is to help reduce rainwater runoff.
The rooms have high ceilings with high level windows to help maximise the light of the sun within the rooms and provide solar heating.
We have applied for a grant to put solar panels on the roof to run the electricity within the building.
Since we have finished our building it has generated a lot of interest from around the country. We have been in the local papers, on the BBC, in the TES and even in Country Homes and Interiors magazine.
