Padstow School News

The children in the Reception Class have been enjoying a new set of waterproof outfits. They were bought to allow them more freedom to get outside and explore aspects of the curriculum in the outdoor environment.

Welcome back after the disruption caused by the snow, we apologise for all of the inconvenience this will have caused. We are looking forward to making a proper start to the Spring term now.

Roads much clearer now, though still thick snow here! If it stays like this school should reopen tomorrow. Keep an eye on the forecast and our websites however as more snow forecast for this area - and Padstow! - in the morning. They keep changing their mind however so hard to be sure.....

 The Infants have done a great job performing their Christmas play 'The Gigantic Star'. It tells the story of a big star who is embarrassed and wants to be the same as all the little twinkly stars, but then he has a very important job to do and realises he is special after all. Well done everyone!  

We decided to make the Lantern Parade even bigger and better this year by inviting other local schools and groups to join in. We were accompanied by Wadebridge School Samba Band who led our procession down through the town to the harbour where the Christmas lights were switched on. It was great to see so many different creations. There were Christmas trees, stars, a church, a snowman a ‘Shaun the Sheep’, a plane, some dragons and a mermaid to mention but a few.

 

We had great fun raising money for Children in Need by holding a Superhero Day! All the children and staff dressed up and the children took part in an outdoor lesson 'Save the Citizen' led by Mr 'Batman' Banks. The lesson involved the children tackling hurdles, crawling under a net, using a magic sword to hack away the undergrowth and finally putting on a pair of enchanted gloves to defeat the baddie and deliver the baby safely to its parents.

5 very lucky children had their names picked out of a hat and had a fantastic opportunity to experience how a comic book is put together. A couple of our parents offered their skills and expertise to produce a one off, special edition, Padstow School Superhero comic which will be available to all soon.

 

Well done to all our swimmers who took part in and won the gala at Wadebridge, they were outstanding!!! Altogether our children achieved 18 1st places, 8 2nd and 1 3rd.  

We were lucky to have a visit from the firemen for Fire Safety Week. The children watched the firemen demonstrate pneumatic cutters, they had a turn at using the hoses, and were able to explore the engine and turn the sirens on. More pictures in our gallery.

We have been busy collecting shoes for Shoe Aid for Africa. We have managed to collect 191 pairs in total.  As a school we believe in sustainability and this is a really good way of recycling unwanted shoes rather than sending them to a landfill.

 

We have launched an exciting new radio station following a suggestion put forward by a pupil in a school council meeting.

It is a great way to liven up lunch and break times. The radio station broadcasts live every lunch time and can be heard all around the school through a number of internal and external speakers. We are hoping to record some Podcasts for you to download from our website.
